There are three basic viral methods:

- This allows a visitor to your website to share your content
with a friend in one click. Your visitor enters some information
in the From: and To: fields along with a personalized message
and an email is sent to the recipient which includes a link back
to the website.
- Tips for making this method work better:
- Try a graphical button instead of a text link
- Place your button in an appropriate place. For instance,
if you are offering classes and workshops, place a small
button with each class listing.
- Make the Tell-a-Friend script easy to use with clear
instructions.
- Offer an incentive like entry into a contest or drawing.
- Be sure to include a link to your privacy policy on
the Tell-a-Friend form page.
- Pass it on items like a
cartoon, an e-book, or funny video clips. Be sure to include contact
information such as your name, your company and your website address.
If you include a graphic that is accessed from your own web server,
then you can track effectiveness using web
traffic analysis.
- A free product or service
with an integrated marketing message like Hotmail. Hotmail is
a free web-based email service provided by MSN.com. In every message
sent using this program, a tag line is inserted at the bottom
that reads "Join the world's largest e-mail service with
MSN Hotmail, http://www.hotmail.com." A user of this email
service must log-in at the Hotmail website and is then exposed
to other products and services for sale.
